Job Summary

Job Title: Color Imaging Engineer
Experience: 2-5 Years (or PhD with 0-2 Years)
Job Summary
Color imaging engineer focusing on color science and perceptual image quality for camera
imaging systems. The engineer will design and execute perceptual studies, characterize color
performance, develop and validate color correction/tuning solutions, and translate experimental
findings into actionable recommendations for camera tuning and algorithm development.
Key Responsibilities
● Design and execute perceptual studies in lab and field environments, including protocol
design, observer management, data collection, and statistical analysis.
● Perform color characterization and measurement across varied lighting conditions;
develop and benchmark measurement methodologies for color attributes (e.g., CCT,
color reproduction, white balance).
● Develop, validate, and iterate on color correction and tuning solutions; analyze
trade-offs across competing image-quality dimensions.
● Build and apply mathematical models to fit experimental data (e.g., regression and
curve fitting); evaluate model quality and generalization.
● Capture and analyze images and videos under varied scene and lighting conditions;
prepare matched device configurations for subjective evaluation.
● Identify color-related artifacts and contribute to root-cause analysis in collaboration with
tuning and algorithm engineers.
● Document studies and findings in clear, well-illustrated reports with linked datasets and
reproducible analysis; present results to cross-functional partners.
● Partner with image quality, tuning, algorithm, and product engineering teams to translate
study outcomes into product decisions.
Required Qualifications
● MS or PhD in Color Science, Imaging Science, Optics, Vision Science, or a closely
related field -- or BS in EE/ECE/CS/Physics with demonstrated color-science project
experience.
● Solid foundation in colorimetry and color science: CIE color spaces (XYZ, Lab, LCh),
color appearance models, white balance, color temperature, ΔE metrics.
● Hands-on experience designing and conducting perceptual experiments with human
observers, including statistical analysis of subjective data.
● Proficiency with Python/Matlab for data analysis, modeling, curve fitting, and
visualization
● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; clear written and verbal communication for
cross-functional reporting.
Preferred Skills
● Strong interests in photography or virtual reality
● Familiarity with the camera ISP pipeline (AE, AWB, color, noise reduction, HDR) and
image-quality metrics.
● Experience with image analysis tools (Imatest, ImageJ, MATLAB) and color
measurement instruments (spectroradiometers, colorimeters).
● Comfort using AI-assisted coding/analysis tools to accelerate iteration.
