Job Summary
Apple's BQL team is seeking a Battery Quality Engineer to join the SCV Qualification Lab. In this role you will be the quality representative across vendor qualification activities, equipment acceptance testing, and ongoing lab operations. You will work closely with battery engineers, environmental technicians, and the Battery Hardware team to ensure lab equipment meets Apple's quality standards and that all issues are identified, tracked, and resolved in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities
• Represent Apple as the Quality Engineer for FAT, SAT and UAT for battery lab equipment (Battery Automatic Testers, thermal chambers, and related systems).
• Review vendor test plans and test environments; identify and document deviations from Apple requirements during FAT/SAT.
• Obtain sign-off from Apple internal teams for all deviations before acceptance; approve FAT/SAT results against Apple criteria. Support cross functional teams during UAT and help resolve any outstanding issues.
• Review and evaluate battery equipment calibration data to confirm instruments are fit for purpose and assess measurement uncertainty.
• Ensure calibration records are complete, accurate, and compliant with Apple's quality standards and lab SOPs.
• Identify out-of-tolerance conditions and partner with the cross functional teams and vendors for corrective action.
• Contribute in MIL review meetings with battery equipment vendors (Automatic Battery Test Manufacturers, Thermal Chamber suppliers) to track hardware and software issue resolution.
• Communicate quality findings, risks, and recommendations clearly to both technical and management audiences.
• Support quality verification activities across lab users, vendor sites and internal teams, ensuring equipment & processes conform to specifications and requirements.
• Investigate & document equipment or process failures; perform initial triage to isolate root cause.
Skill Requirements
• Hands-on experience in battery testing knowledge of capacity, cycle life, HPPC, DCIR, and/or calendar life test methods strongly preferred.
• Solid understanding of quality engineering principles: calibration management, measurement systems analysis, and equipment qualification processes (FAT/SAT/UAT).
• Ability to review and interpret calibration data and assess instrument fitness for purpose.
• Experience working with vendors in a quality or engineering capacity; able to maintain Apple standards under vendor pressure.
• Strong data analysis skills - comfortable working with test data and presenting findings.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to write clear quality reports and present issues concisely to cross-functional stakeholders.
• Self-driven, organized, and effective at managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
• This position requires occasional travel to vendor sites.
Other Requirements
• Experience with automated battery test equipment and associated software.
• Familiarity with PPAP or similar supplier quality processes.
• Basic proficiency with data analysis tools or scripting (Python, Excel, etc.).
• Familiarity with structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, Root Cause Analysis, 5-Why, Fishbone/ Ishikawa analysis.
EDUCATION
- BS in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline required.
- MS preferred but not required.
